Seamus Heaney Home

Accessibility

The team at Seamus Heaney HomePlace aim to make your visit as enjoyable and stress free as possible.

Car Parking: Seamus Heaney HomePlace has two free car parks which enable visitors to park close to the building.  Two parking spaces are available for Blue Badge holders in the top car park located on Main Street and another four parking spaces are available in the car park on the Gulladuff Road.

Exhibition: The exhibition is step-free with both floors accessible by lift. The lift is fitted with a mirror to aid reversing onto the exhibition floor. Seats are placed throughout the exhibition.  The Back Yard at HomePlace, which houses an outdoor sensory garden, is also step-free and is part of the overall visitor experience. The garden has braille signs, interactive pens and a fully functioning water well.

Facilities for those with Mobility Issues: Mobility aids are welcome. A wheelchair can be provided if necessary, which is available on a first come, first serve basis. Our reception desk has a lowered section, which measures 75cm high (29.5 inches).  The route from the car park to each entrance is accessible for wheel chair users. There are automatic doors at each entrance.

Bathroom Facilities: Toilets are located on both floors of the exhibition. There is an accessible toilet on each floor complete with baby changing facilities.

Sensory Equipment: If you would like to borrow ear defenders, sensory equipment and/or a sensory tent during your visit, please ask a member of our team. Please note we have a limited amount of sensory equipment and it is available on a first come, first serve basis.

Further Accessibility Information: Visitor numbers for each time slot are limited to ensure an enjoyable visit and to minimise noise disruption in the exhibition.  A loop system for hearing assistance is available in our Helicon theatre. Please note this is not currently available in other areas of the building.  Guide dogs are welcome at HomePlace. The team will be happy to provide water for these dogs upon request. HomePlace offers a complimentary ticket for carers accompanying a paying customer who requires this assistance.  Please make our Front of House team aware of this on your arrival.

All Front of House Staff have received Just a Minute Training (JAM).  Please present your JAM card on arrival.
