New Summer Programme For Children and Teenagers

A new summer programme of activities for children and young people has been launched by Seamus Heaney HomePlace.

Throughout July and August the award-winning literary centre will be offering everything from crafts in the Creative Zone and outdoor, explorative, messy play in the ‘Back Yard’, all suitable for toddlers up, to poetry-inspired art workshops and illustration and animation sessions for an older age group.

Those with an interest in illustration will be drawn to the comic book class where they can learn how to draw their favourite comic book heroes, and get tips on how to develop their own characters, under the expert facilitation of comic book illustrator, Jim Lavery.

An art workshop inspired by ‘Remembering Malibu’, one of Seamus Heaney’s poems which features artist, Piet Mondrian, will allow younger children and teenagers to explore Mondrian’s art and to create their own Mondrian-style collages.

Lego mini animation master classes with the Can Do Academy will see children make a complete animated Lego film on an iPad, with sound effects, visual effects, and lots of imagination.

A 2-day poetry workshop for young adults, led by poet John Blackmore, will bring participants out to The Strand at Lough Beg which so inspired Seamus Heaney, who will use their impressions of the landscape as their own inspiration to create their own poems.
