The Back Yard
Outdoor sensory experiences in The Back Yard
Take your pupils on a multi-sensory exploration of Seamus Heaney’s poetry in The Back Yard, a self-contained educational and recreational garden space that forms part of HomePlace.
With Braille signs, interactive pens that play Seamus Heaney poems, a fully functioning water well and an array of plants and flowers, The Back Yard is equipped with sights, smells and sounds to give students an introduction to poetry that engages many of their senses.
A visit to The Back Yard will also help young people to develop their understanding of the natural world, which features so prominently in many of Seamus Heaney’s poems.
