How to get to HomePlace

We’re very easy to find. Seamus Heaney HomePlace in the village of Bellaghy, just 45 minutes between Belfast and Derry City and just two miles off the A6 road linking the two cities. Heaney was born and raised in the Bellaghy area and chose it as his final resting place.

  • from Belfast

    By Car:

    (Estimated journey time 45 minutes)

    Follow the M2 from Belfast and continue onto the M22 and A6 towards Toomebridge.  Pass through three large roundabouts on the A6. Approximately half-a-mile after the third roundabout turn right onto the B182/Deerpark Road, signposted Bellaghy, and follow the B182 into Bellaghy Village. Take the first exit at the small roundabout in the village centre. Seamus Heaney HomePlace is on your right.

    Take Goldline Express bus 212 from Europa Bus Centre, towards Derry. Your stop will be Castledawson Park and Ride. View timetable here.

    At Castledawson Park and Ride, take Ulsterbus bus 127 towards Ballymena Bus Centre. Your stop will be Bellaghy Village. View timetable here.

    By Car:

    (Estimated journey time 45 mins)

    Follow signs for Belfast and continue on the A6 until you reach the Castledawson Roundabout. Take the first exit, signposted Castledawson/Bellaghy/A54, and continue through Castledawson to the end of the road. Turn left onto Hillhead Road/A54, then immediately right onto Old Town Road/A54. Continue into Bellaghy Village. Seamus Heaney HomePlace is on your left.

    By Car:

    (Estimated journey time 25 mins)

    Follow signs for Galgorm, then continue through Galgorm, Ahoghill and Portglenone.  As you approach Portglenone, take the first exit at the mini-roundabout. Continue through the village and, after crossing the bridge, turn left onto the Ballymacombs Road /A54, signposted Bellaghy/Castledawson.

    Follow the road to Bellaghy, go straight on at the mini-roundabout and Seamus Heaney HomePlace is on your right.

    By Car:

    (Estimated journey time 2hrs 30mins)

    Please Note: Euro coins will be required for the toll bridges.

    Depart Dublin following signs for the Airport / Belfast / M1 / M50. Continue on the M1 towards Belfast / Newry, continuing onto the N1 / A1. As you pass Newry, follow signs for Armagh / A28.  From Armagh, follow signs for Moy / Dungannon / A29 and continue along the A29 through Moy, Dungannon, Cookstown and Moneymore.

    At Moneymore, follow signs for Magherafelt / A31. As you approach Magherafelt town centre continue on the A31, following signs for Castledawson / A54 Toome / A6 Belfast / M2. At the Castledawson roundabout, take the first exit, signposted Castledawson / Bellaghy / A54, and continue through Castledawson to the end of the road. Turn left onto Hillhead Road / A54, then immediately right onto Old Town Road / A54. Continue into Bellaghy Village. Seamus Heaney HomePlace is on your left.

  • Travelling to Northern Ireland

    By Air:

    The closest airport to Bellaghy is Belfast International Airport (BFS), which is approximately a 30 minute drive.  The George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD) and City of Derry Airport (LDY) are approximately a one hour drive. Dublin Airport (DUB) is approximately a 2 hour 30 min drive.

    By Sea:

    Northern Ireland has numerous ferry connections with Scotland, England and the Isle of Man. Crossings include Cairnryan to Belfast or Larne, Liverpool to Belfast and Douglas to Belfast. Crossings from Holyhead to Dublin will also put you within a two and a half hour drive of HomePlace.

    Check current routes and prices with ferry operators. Port information can be obtained from the Port of Larne, Belfast Harbour or Dublin Port.
