Seamus Heaney HomePlace hosted an information evening for local businesses on Wednesday 13th February alongside Mid Ulster District Council, Business and Communities department. The evening brought 60 people from businesses within Bellaghy, Portglenone and the surrounding areas to HomePlace to review what has been achieved to date and to learn of the upcoming plans for the area.

Adrian McCreesh, Director of Business and Communities opened the evening, welcoming the businesses and explaining what the evening had in store: “the purpose of tonight’s information evening is to inform you of the range of projects that are currently being developed in this part of the Mid Ulster Region.”

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Sean McPeake, took to The Helicon stage to highlight the impact HomePlace has had on the village of Bellaghy and “how it has been a catalyst to stimulate regeneration within the village itself”.

The evening went on to include music from the wonderful Bellaghy Comhaltas and presentations from Brian McCormick, Seamus Heaney HomePlace Manager, Jack Tisdall and Stephen Douglas, Waterways Ireland and Seamus McErlean from Bellaghy Historical Society.

Sean McPeake closed the evening with the HomePlace video narrated by local man Liam Neeson. Before playing Councillor McPeake quoted Seamus Heaney and stated that “from time to time I think we should all draw from the work of Seamus Heaney and what it means to be part of a place that makes us who we are and makes us proud to be from this beautiful landscape of ours that we call home”.
