The third programme of 2018 for HomePlace has been released and incorporates performances and events to wet the taste buds of a vast audience. Running from September to December, the opening act of this autumn programme is one of Ireland’s greatest contemporary novelists, John Boyne. He will be discussing his new novel, A Ladder to the Sky, as well as his novels for adults, children and short stories. On the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote and continuing on from the current Times Up movement, Helen Pankhurst will be in conversation in association with Bellaghy Historical Society. Great Granddaughter of suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst and a leading women’s rights campaigner, this is set to be an interesting and powerful evening. For families, HomePlace is excited to celebrate Roald Dahl day on the 15th September. Make your own dream jar and Mr Twit beard, an illustration workshop and a screening of the Ronald Dahl favourite, The BFG, will all be taking place. A strong musical theme as always runs through the new programme including performances from Lore, Érui and Bellaghy Folk Choir, Iarla Ó’Lionáird and Steve Cooney and The Piatti Quartet. A highlight from this autumn’s events will be the celebration of the 100 poems book launch. Seamus Heaney’s son, Chris Heaney, will be joined by Faber & Faber poets Don Paterson, Jo Shapcott and Zaffar Kunial. Closing the year with some festive favourites Ian Sansom will be joining us in association with No Alibis Press and Anthony Toner, Neil Martin, Glen Patterson and Rod McVey will gather for an evening of music, poetry and banter by the HomePlace hearth.
